Tony Bennett to play UB Center for the Arts

Unknown     November 09, 2016
Grammy Award-winning artist Tony Bennett will play a one-night-only performance at UB Center for the Arts on Dec. 17. The 8 p.m. show will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

Bennett's initial successes came via a string of Columbia singles in the early 1950's, including such chart-toppers as "Because of You," "Rags to Riches," and a remake of Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart." He had 24 songs in the Top 40, including: "I Wanna Be Around," "The Good Life," "Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)?" and his signature song, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco," which garnered him the first two of his 19 Grammy Awards. Tony Bennett is one of only a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and 10's. He introduced a multitude of songs into the great American Songbook that have since become pop music classics.

Locally presented by The Derico of East Amherst Corporation, concert proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo. Since opening its doors to families of seriously ill or injured children, the Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo has provided comfortable, affordable lodging for 18,000 families from Western New York and around the world. The Ronald McDonald House is a family's "home-away-from-home" when their child requires specialized medical care at a Buffalo hospital.

Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts box office (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays), online at www.ubcfa.org or by phone 1-888-223-6000.

Tonight's ThinkSoJoe Show to focus on politics

Unknown     November 02, 2016
The ThinkSoJoe Show, airing at 6 p.m. Wednesdays on All WNY Radio, will focus tonight's show on politics and music's role in the political system.

Hosts ThinkSoJoe and Muller had put out a call for Western New York artists with politically themed songs for tonight's playlist. Their search resulted in tonight's "politically charged" playlist including songs from Twin Lions, Ghostfeeder, Apex Down and Matt Garcia.

"We will also be talking about local and national politics and how you feel about artists voicing their opinions on the issue," Muller said via his Facebook page. "You will not want to miss this special episode hosted by me and ThinkSoJoE."

The ThinkSoJoe Show airs live on AllWNYRadio.com, as well as on TuneIn and the All WNY News & Radio app for Android. It can also be heard live on Amazon Alexa-enabled devices by saying, "Alexa, listen to All W.N.Y. Radio on TuneIn." At the conclusion of each show, the audio is archived on the All WNY Radio Podcast and made available for listening or download on AllWNYRadio.com and AllWNYNews.com.

HEaRD in WNY: Top shows for the week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 6

Unknown     October 31, 2016
This week's can't-miss event is Jimmy & Ballzy's Wedding Reception.

You may know Ballzy as the girl who may have kicked you out of her house if you were being dumb at Northrup. Or you may know her as the lady who kicked you out of Mohawk Place for being dumb. Or, you may know her as the awesome rocker chick that has been supporting the local music scene her entire life. Alaysa Dale, the current head of security at Mohawk Place, is a friend to everyone who loves to rock out (and can follow the rules) & her band Nine Layers Deep, which also features her to-be husband Jimmy McFarland, will be performing alongside Ish Kabibble, Chloroform, Dudes, and Dead Lounge for their wedding reception on Saturday starting at 8:00 p.m. Come celebrate some killer people getting hitched with some killer local bands at Buffalo's home for punk rock, Mohawk Place.
