HEaRD IN WNY: Top shows for the week of July 4 - 10

Unknown     July 04, 2016
This week's feature event is on Friday -- a double show for one price: The Scenics and Green Jello.

Green Jellÿ/Jello was formed in 1981 in Kenmore by founding member Bill Manspeaker with one goal: to be "The World's Worst Band." Over the years they grew and changed (but never matured) and found fame in their antics, having had famous names dropped throughout their revolving cast of puppets including Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan of Tool. They've also been Grammy nominated, sued by Kraft Foods, Kellogg, & even Metallica, and toured many a time with their dear friends GWAR.

Now fresh off a tour run with Insane Clown Posse they return home for a late night wild time at the one-and-only Mohawk Place. This "Punk Rock Puppet Show" is a local legend, and a true treat to see for only $5. Come at 8 p.m. for the early acts including Toronto Proto-Punk legends The Scenics who bring back that late 70's charm, then stay after Midnight when the Jello shenanigans take over.

Other shout outs:

Greg Burt is a Concert Promoter/Sound Guy/Music Supporter/Keyboardist/etc. He can be reached at Greg@FTMPEvents.com. For the full FTMP show calendar, visit www.FTMPEvents.com

Destination EU: DoDriver looks to tour Europe

Unknown     July 03, 2016
BUFFALO -- The popular Western New York four-piece rock band DoDriver is looking to spread their music to the world -- or at least Europe.

The band recently came across an opportunity to play a series of shows throughout Europe in October, 2017. But with the opportunity comes a challenge: Raising the more than $20,000 to make it happen.

Hello Internet.

The band turned to GoFundMe in hopes of having friends, family and fans help raise the necessary $20,500 for the trip to Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary.

The band says it needs to secure the funding by the end of July in order to get the arrangements finalized. They've still got a ways to go. Seventeen days in, they've raised $325 of the necessary $20,500. But four weeks is a long time on the Internet and the goal is hardly unreachable.

The plan is 10 -- maybe 12 -- shows in 15 days beginning Oct. 1, 2017, in support of Lord Bishop Rocks. Each show will be filmed and some will be broadcast live. There is also plans to record a track in a studio in Budapest.

The band has experience playing outside the U.S., having played gigs in Puerto Rico and Canada, as well as six American states. They've opened for dozens of national headliners, including their childhood idols, KISS.

And now, they intend to make it big.
We hope to make 2017 our best year ever as a band and we want you to help us do just that! For years our fans, friends and family have been telling us that we "should be famous by now" or "should be playing big arenas" or "are WAY better than X band" so this is our chance to go prove to another part of the World what you already know. Thank you so much for making our dreams come true!
Jody, Mike, Mark and Chris

The Ataris to play Mohawk Place Aug. 29

Unknown     July 02, 2016

BUFFALO -- The Ataris will headline a Mohawk Place concert Aug. 29. The Anderson, Ind. rock band with five albums to their name are best known for a cover of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer."

The band refers to themselves as "four friends creating words and music in the basements and dive bars of the world while young souls pile into the microphone and spill beer into our effects pedals."

Young souls can pile into the Mohawk for $12 each. Beer spilling is highly discouraged -- especially onto effects pedals or other electronic equipment.

Also playing the Mohawk gig are the Barksdales and Younger Then.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for this 16+ show. Tickets are available at http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1233531-ataris-buffalo.

Try 'em before you buy 'em. Their new song, "Hang Your Head in Hope" is available FREE of charge only from The Ataris' Bandcamp page.

The Stolen, Mike Shiavo to headline Niagara Falls show

Unknown     June 28, 2016

NIAGARA FALLS -- The Stolen and 2016 "The Voice" contestant Mike Shiavo will headline a July 10 show at the Evening Star Concert Hall.

The Stolen, a pop/rock band from Old Bridge, NJ, consists of of Dom Cuce on vocals, Rob Chiarappa on guitar and vocals, Kevin Smart on bass, and Mike Chiarappa on drums. The quartet formed in 2005 as neighborhood friends who began performing their favorite covers at shows and built quite a following from taking top hits and adding their own melodic twist.

They began writing and performing their own material in 2009, developing a devout following by touring the U.S. and Canada, opening for heavy-hitters Neon Trees and All American Rejects.

Their debut EP, "Adults," combined the band’s undeniable catchy hooks with sincere lyrics, unforgettable choruses, and singing guitar solos to define their unique sound. While the EP tells a heartfelt story of growing up, the music varies from lighthearted tracks like "Motion Sickness" to darker emo jams like "Getting New at Growing Old" finding that perfect blend that Alternative music has been waiting for.

Following Adults, the band released “Chardonnay” an emotionally right tune released in 2015, produced by Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, The Dangerous Summer). The current tour promotes their latest offering, "I’m So Dead," co-produced by guitarist Rob Chiarappa and Mike Oettinger (Man Overboard, Transit) and mastered by Grammy-nominated German Mastering engineer Robin Schmidt (The 1975, The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons).

Mike Schiavo, aka Spots, a contestant on the 2016 season of The Voice, is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter raised in Colonia, NJ. His biggest inspiration is The King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley.

Schiavo's style of pop-rock has been stealing hearts all over the world through Youtube where his channel has received almost half a million views and is a member of the Awesomeness TV Network. Mike's music career quickly took off and now you can see him performing with numerous national acts. Mike's popularity, success, and talent are leading him to take over the music industry.

Watch Schiavo's Voice audition here: https://youtu.be/trXlLyH9iiY

Also playing on the bill will be local bands So Far So GoodMom Said NoOne Way to Nowhere, and Shane Archer Reed, among others. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for the 18+ show. Pre-sale tickets are available online.

The bill is a presentation of For the Music Productions.
