This week's featured event is Unity Fest 2 on Saturday.
The boys in Buffalo's A Story Inspired are back with their annual festival in Dellaland (West Falls) dedicated to uniting together. Unity Fest boasts bands on two stages, beer, food, camp out, volleyball, and Kan Jam (yes, they will remember to bring them this time). It's $15 for 12 bands including hardcore and pop rock heavyweights Scenery With Solace, Bungler, Habits, Jaali Cypher, Deadbeat, I'm From The Government & I'm Here To Help, Revealer, A Story Inspired, Senick, The Concord Kids, Coma State, and Dishonored. So get out of the house this weekend, kick back, rock out, and have fun. As they say "No negative attitude allowed, its all about having a good time."

A four-piece rock band out of Buffalo has released a new track exclaiming their Buffalo pride.
The Andrew Hambridge Band released the song, "One Buffalo" via a YouTube video on their Facebook page on Saturday. The video shows the lyrics while the song plays.
The band, comprised of Andrew Hambridge on vocals and guitar, Paul Baumann on lead guitar, Tom Gallagher on Bass and Jeff Cronyn on Drums, says it got help on the track from "Nick at World of Noise Recording Studio," thanking him for his work on the track.
Gallagher says the band has some shows in the works "for the first time in quite a while."
Hailing from modest roots in Olean, local act The Hovelists have recently released their new single, "My Dear," which can be found here. The track, while starting out slow, is a song that can find its place among the right listeners if introduced correctly.
There are a few minor downfalls with this song. The verse and chorus have trouble identifying themselves from one another which makes the song sort of ramble on as if you were listening to a three-hour lecture about neuro-molecular studies (and I don’t even know if that is a real thing).
However, the song actually turns out to be pretty cool; not catchy, not “fun,” but cool. The vocals throughout the verse have a good way of flowing in and out of each other through echoing and harmonies. There’s darkness in this song that can only be acknowledged through lyricism and unique instrumental qualities. Listening to this song made me think of bands like Brand New and The Used.
Judging from this band and their first single from their new album, expect a dark-sounding album separating itself from the rest of the local music scene. These guys sound different, and different is good – especially in an environment where your success is based on how much you are able to stand out. Overall the song is good (not great) but I am excited to hear what else this band will release in the future.
The Hovelists are currently performing regionally and recording tracks for their first full-length album “Error of the Second Kind.” The album will be completed this fall and is scheduled for release in the spring of 2017. Rating: 7/10
James Burns reviews local music for All WNY News. Catch his column every Monday. And contact him at james.burns@allwnyradio.com.
Justin Mauk was a friend to the Buffalo Music Scene, and on Sunday, a memorial concert is being held in his honor to raise funds for his wife and new baby. Although I didn't know him personally I love seeing the community come together for a great cause, especially to honor one of our own. The local music scene is expansive, but as soon as tragedy strikes someone involved, there is quickly a response from all over to offer help.
Crippled Mess, Kennedy Carpool, From The Ashes, The Tosspots, Radical Operations, Grain Assault, On Point, Good Dude, Jay Carver, The Taken, and The Card Cheats are all getting together at Mohawk Place for a "kick ass Matinee show for Justin!"
Doors open at 3 p.m. and the music starts at 4 p.m. A $5 donation at the door is all that's needed to help out. Baby supplies other other donations will also be accepted at the event and given to the Mauk Family.
Conscious : 6 p.m. Sunday at Evening Star Concert Hall
